Meet some of the key individuals who are contributing to developing and raising awareness about our island’s cultural African heritage. Through their actions, very often behind the scene, these mentors are helping to promote a sense of pride in our shared love for the Motherland.

They are, in their own different ways and by their initiatives, the true shakers and movers who make things happen.

Extraordinary Professor at the University of Curacao. Leading cultural historian with main focus on the descendants of enslaved Africans.

Ex-Director of NAAM, Richenel is a healer, intangible heritage assets expert, trainer, motivator and implementation strategist

Researcher with deep insight into history of slavery, into Caribbean customs, cultural and spiritual traditions derived from African roots.

Educator, poet, dramatic art performer, focused on and projecting the importance of African influences on Kòrsou’s music and dance. .

Singer, composer, poet, dancer, expert and trainer in the traditional culture and authentic rhythms of Kòrsou – Seú, Tambú and Tumba.

We have come a long way, but we still have a lot of ground to (re)cover. We owe a world of gratitude to all those who tirelessly strove to keep our African legacy alive. Many have passed away. Their memories will always be fresh on our minds. For those who are today at the forefront of the struggle, we do like you to know that we appreciate all your efforts.
