in brief
Africa-Caribbean air-bridge becoming a reality
The much anticipated direct air connectivity between the Caribbean and the Motherland is in an advanced stage.
Imagine being able to fly directly from the Caribbean to Africa without having to first go to another continent.
Well, that will soon be the reality. Talks between the government of Barbados and Nigeria’s largest airline, Air Peace, are at a very advanced stage and are progressing positively, with both parties working towards establishing direct commercial flights between the two nations.
In fact, Nigeria which is Africa’s most populous nation with some 230 million people, has already cleared its end of the direct flight and issued Air Peace with authorisation for the commercial flight. When the other end is also cleared, it will be a boost to strengthening closer Africa-Caribbean economic and cultural ties.
Within the same context, Air Peace, a private airline is taking 70% stake in the LIAT airline and is planning to invest heavily in revamping the airline. This will serve as the feeder, making it easy for travelers to get to the hub.
Nigeria will be the hub in Africa.
