About the Evening

This is a hands-on cultural experience designed to connect you with Africa in a meaningful and memorable way.

Through two interactive workshops, you will explore:

  • The symbolism and artistry of African face expressions
  • The energy and storytelling of African dance traditions

Expect an evening filled with creativity, learning, and vibrant interaction.

Workshop 1: Faces of Africa

Identity, Symbols, and Expression

The human face holds deep cultural meaning across Africa. In this workshop, you will explore how identity, spirituality, and history are expressed through markings, paint, and masks.

What You Will Discover

  • The meaning and significance of facial markings in African societies
  • The history and cultural context of tribal marks
  • The symbolism behind traditional face painting, including colour meanings
  • The role of African masks in spirituality, ceremonies, and storytelling.

Hands-On Experience

You won’t just learn—you will create:

  • Design your own face painting patterns
  • Create your own African-inspired cultural mask.

This workshop was previously held in 2025 and received excellent feedback from participants, making it one of the most anticipated sessions of the week.
